The passion for painting Peter Fox Shoes began in 2004, when Tracey was asked to paint a lace-up silk boot for Vogue's e-zine. Shortly after, she started receiving commission requests through the Peter Fox Shoes store in Soho. In 2005, Mr. Fox commissioned Tracey to paint a 50-pair collection. All but one pair sold. The remainig pair, a small size 5 just didn't find the right home, although many women tried in true Cinderellla fashion! In January 2008, Tracey painted a collection of 40-pairs of the same label, which she acquired after the Soho location closed. Four hundred hours later, (really, no kidding) the project was complete. For two months, an online raffle took place. Women (and men too) purchased raffle tickets to win a pair of these unique works of art. Fifty percent of the proceeds were donated to the:
Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, Inc. "Shoes That Inspire: The Win/Win Campaign: Win a pair of hand painted silk shoes while winning the chance to help in the fight against breast cancer."
A beautiful 2009 Shoe Calendar was also available. Tracey's creations received a month-long window display in the landmark Vesuvio Bakery windows on Prince Street in Soho, New York City, as well as press on several blogs and shoe-related websites. The exhibition and drawing took place on November 23rd in Chelsea.
All the shoes originated in "Diamond White" silk satin. Aside from the painted artwork, trimmings have been added to some of the styles. If you would like Tracey to create a hand painted design on your own pair of white or light ivory silk shoes, send us an e-mail at questions@traceyasaidesigns.com or use our Product Inquiry Submission Form. We will reply to your questions within 24 hours during our studio hours, Monday through Friday.
